Dr. Wiemi Douguih to Perform Shoulder Surgery on Nationals' First Baseman Adam LaRoche

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Wiemi Douguih, MD, team physician for the Washington Nationals, will perform shoulder surgery on Nationals' first baseman Adam LaRoche, according to a report from The Examiner.

Dr. Douguih will repair Mr. LaRoche's torn labrum in his left shoulder. He first experienced pain during spring training and an MRI showed a small tear. He treated the injury using anti-inflammatory drugs, a cortisone injection and strengthening exercises before deciding on surgery.

Mr. LaRoche will undergo anywhere from three to seven months of rehabilitation, depending on the size of the tear. He will be out for the rest of this season but is expected to return for spring training next year.
