HitCheck, a new app that tests for concussions by tracking an individual's performance over time and screening for sudden changes after a potential brain injury, is being used by trainers at Greenville (S.C.) Health Systems, according to The Greenville News.
Here are three things to know:
1. The app, which can be accessed through any smartphone, is designed to assess an athlete's cognitive function from the sidelines immediately after sustaining an injury.
2. Like ImPACT and SCAT5 assessments, HitCheck requires athletes take a baseline test, which can be used as a comparison to the athletes' post-injury test, to help determine whether the individual is concussed.
3. HitCheck tests for short-term memory, balance, coordination and pattern recognition, among other symptoms.
