Michael Murphy, DO, an orthopedic and sports medicine physician of DuPage Medical Group, will serve as the head team physician for the Joliet Slammers, a professional baseball team in the independent Frontier League.
The move comes as Joliet Slammers agreed a multi-year partnership with DMG that includes naming rights to the stadium, now labelled DuPage Medical Group Field.
DMG provides care for over 100 suburban Chicago locations, and as the home run sponsor, will donate $50 to the DMG Charitable Fund for every home run hit by a Joliet Slammers player at home fixtures.
Dr. Murphy previously served as team physician for the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Shock.
He earned his medical degree and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Ill. Following residency, Dr. Murphy completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Wayne University School of Medicine in Detroit.
