Mercy Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine joins STOP Sports Injuries Campaign — 8 key notes

Mercy Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine joined the effort to promote the STOP Sports Injuries Campaign, according to The Clermont Sun.

Here are eight notes:

 

1. Mercy Health is working with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, National Athletic Trainers' Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association and Safe Kids USA to promote the campaign.

 

2. STOP Sports Injuries educates athletes, parents, athletic trainers, coaches as well as healthcare providers on the rise in youth sport injuries.

 

3. The campaign also educates participants on the appropriate steps to reverse the trend and the need to keep young athletes healthy.

 

4. Additionally, STOP Sports Injuries teaches prevention techniques, emphasizes the need for open communication between everyone involved in young athletes' lives and encourages those affected by sports injuries to sign The Pledge.

 

5. High school athletes account for approximately 2 million injuries every year.

 

6. The high prevalence of sports injuries is attributed to an increase in overuse and trauma injuries.

 

7. Members of the campaign include professional athletes, the nation's leading sports medicine organizations and business leaders.

 

8. Some of the founding members of the campaign's Council of Champions include  former Olympic champions Christie Rampone, Eric Heiden and Bonnie Blair and professional golfer Jack Nicklaus among many other athletes.
