Timothy Kremchek, MD, will perform Tommy John surgery on Miami Marlins pitcher Edinson Volquez, MLB.com reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Mr. Volquez tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He is expected to undergo surgery on Aug. 4. The Marlins believe Mr. Volquez will need between 12 to 14 months to recover.
2. This is Mr. Volquez's second Tommy John surgery.
3. Dr. Kremchek is the Cincinnati Red's medical director.
4. He practices at Cincinnati-based Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
