The American College of Sports Medicine and Denver-based U.S. Center for SafeSport partnered to address the increasing issue of abuse among athletes.
Here are three details:
1. The first and only national organization of its kind, the Center is focused on ending all forms of abuse in sports through prevention, education and accountability.
2. The nonprofit provides services to sport entities on abuse prevention techniques, policies and programs and provides a safe, professional and confidential place for individuals to report sexual abuse within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movements.
3. ACSM's affiliate society, the National Youth Sports Health and Safety Institute, will collaborate with the Center to help address the issue of abuse by:
• Providing educational resources that promote the Center's work
• Creating an informal "portal" within its Youth Sports e-Toolkit
• Producing a podcast series with information on abuse for parents, athletes, sport governing bodies, coaches, administrators and more
