1. Mr. Musgrove was diagnosed with a stress reaction on the front of his pelvic bone and an abdominal muscle strain in late September.
2. The Pirates initially said the right-handed pitcher would take six weeks of rest to heal and left the possibility for surgery open.
3. Mr. Musgrove's recovery is estimated at six weeks, and he is expected to be pitching by spring training in 2019.
4. Dr. Smith is a board-certified general surgeon at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Marina Del Rey Hospital. He specializes in hernia repair and cholecystectomy.
