Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu had surgery July 21 to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, ESPN reported.
Renowned sports medicine surgeon Neal ElAttrache, MD, of Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Institute, performed the procedure on the 20-year-old basketball player.
Mr. Okongwu is expected to be sidelined for about six months.
Dr. ElAttrache has operated on several high-profile athletes this year, including UFC lightweight Conor McGregor, golfer Brooks Koepka and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May.
