Nexxt Spine began its MATRIXX trial, the first clinical evaluation of 3D-printed lumbar interbody fusion devices compared to PEEK.
Here are four things to know:
1. The Nexxt Matrixx System includes porous titanium spinal fusion implants featuring differentiated surface texturing technology and 3D-printed cellular scaffolding.
2. The prospective randomized controlled trial will evaluate the outcomes of the system after lumbar interbody fusion. Patients will either receive a Nexxt Matrixx 3D-printed porous titantium cage or a plastic PEEK cage. Researchers will collect outcomes data at three, six, 12 and 24 months postoperatively.
3. According to Nexxt Spine President Andy Elsbury, over 1,400 Matrixx devices have been implanted.
4. Nexxt Spine offers 16 spinal implant product lines.
