Ronald Hugate, MD, replaced part of a patient's cancerous pelvis with a 3D-printed titanium implant, CBS Denver Local reports.
Three things to know:
1. The patient suffered from chondrosarcoma in his right pelvis. Dr. Hugate removed the cancerous portion of the pelvis and used a 3D-printed implant to replace the removed part.
2. This is the second case Dr. Hugate has performed with this technology. He cites improved surgical precision, customized reconstruction and reduced time in the operating room as key benefits.
