FH Orthopedics published its midterm follow-up results of patients treated with its Lumbar Prothesis.
The results can be found in The Spine Journal. Surgeons evaluated 61 patients' outcomes after undergoing complete clinical and radiological follow-ups at three, six, 12, 24 and 60 months.
Study authors concluded, "This LP-ESP viscoelastic disc replacement series reports significant improvement in midterm clinical outcomes, consistent with previously published studies." There was "a surprisingly low rate of revision surgery and no adjacent level disease or facet joints problems."
The LP-ESP is a lumbar prosthesis that combines two titanium end plates with an elastomeric cushion made of polycarbonate urethane. Designed to mimic a natural disc, the LP-ESP is designed to withstand the pressures of compression and torsion.
FH Orthopedics earned the CE market of the implant in 2006, after two years of clinical investigation. Since developed, the LP-ESP has been used in more than 5,000 implant procedures.
