Alphatec launched a new posterior lumbar interbody fusion procedure that uses its AlphaGRAFT Demineralized Bone Matrix Fiber.
Five things to know:
1. The new system, IdentiTi-PS Interbody Implant System began its alpha evaluations in June 2018, and today Alphatec made the second of six implant systems in the IdentiTi family commercially available. The company expects to release four more implant systems in 2019.
2. IdentiTi implants are designed with both PEEK and titanium materials to accommodate for both preferences. "The IdentiTi-PS implant represents the next evolution in porous titanium interbody implants," said David Schwartz, MD, of Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy. "IdentiTi implants have a porosity and stiffness similar to bone propensities conductive to new bone growth with minimal imaging scatter across all radiographic modalities."
3. The implant has stiffness similar to bone and is created through a subtractive manufacturing process for a reproducible interconnected pore size. The low-profile instruments optimize surgeon experience.
4. Alphatec's DBM is made of 100 percent demineralized fibers and delivers osteogenic cells after hydration by the patient's bone marrow aspirate. The DBM has shown the five elements of new bone formation in animal studies.
5. Chairman of Alphatec Pat Miles said the company plans to launch 12 new products this year.
