Johnstown, Pa.-based Conemaugh Health System's Memorial Medical Center received new imaging equipment, The Tribune-Democrat reports.
The new equipment reduces the length of the average positron emission tomography scan from 30 minutes to 10 minutes with a lower dose of radiation and improved image quality.
PET scans are an advanced nuclear imaging technique useful in the diagnosis and development of treatment for cancer.
"The image quality with this technology is truly excellent," radiologist William Herbick, MD, told The Tribune Democrat. "This will allow us to detect smaller lesions that may not have been as easy to spot with older technology."
