Taiwan Main Orthopaedic Biotechnology is developing surgical glasses equipped with augmented reality and mixed reality to improve accuracy and efficiency in spine surgery.
Caduceus S is designed to help surgeons set spine positioning fixtures and generate preoperative plans. The technology is in the FDA's final review process.
The Caduceus S spine navigation system features an AR/MR head-mounted display that superimposes a 3D model of the patient's spine, so surgeons can better understand the entry point, calculation of depth and angle of the instrument used — the surgical drills or pedicle screws being implanted.
The technology could reduce the learning curve in spine surgery and improve workflow in the OR, the company said in an Aug. 5 news release.
