Healthcare makes up the largest percentage of total employment per state in West Virginia, followed by Rhode Island, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
KFF gathered the data from the Occupational Employment Statistics, which provides wage and employment estimates by industry. The data was gathered in May 2015 and does not include self-employed workers.
Here are the top 11 states where healthcare employment is the biggest business, as a percentage of total employment:
1. West Virginia: 11.4 percent
2. Rhode Island: 11.3 percent
3. Ohio: 10.7 percent
4. Maine: 10.6 percent
5. Massachusetts: 10.4 percent
6. Mississippi: 10.3 percent
7. Pennsylvania: 10.3 percent
8. North Carolina: 10.1 percent
9. New York: 10 percent
10. Michigan: 9.9 percent
11. Missouri: 9.9 percent
