NueHealth, Rothman Institute, Jefferson Health form joint venture to reopen an ASC: 5 things to know

Practice Management

Leawood, Kan.-based NueHealth entered into a partnership with Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute, Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health and 14 individual physicians to acquire the Blue Bell Surgery Center in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Here are five things to know.

1. The Jefferson Surgery Center – Blue Bell is set to open in the third quarter of 2018. NueHealth will be in control of day-to-day management.

2. Blue Bell Surgery Center was founded by a group of independent physicians 10 years ago. However, a management group took over ownership and management of the ambulatory surgery center. Now the joint venture is looking to bring physician management back to the ASC.

3. Rothman Institute and its partners plan to shift procedures to the ASC's four operating rooms while also expanding it to add clinical facilities, keeping in mind the possibility of future growth.

4. Blue Bell Surgery Center typically recorded close to 2,000 patients treated annually. However, now with the large partnership Jefferson Surgery Center – Blue Bell expects to see 4,000 patients each year.

5. "As an original founder, I'm very excited to be a part of the revitalization of the Blue Bell Surgery Center," said Timothy Amann, DO, a founder and medical director of the old ASC. "With the physicians' commitment to the facility and the patients that it serves, along with NueHealth's management expertise, this facility is sure to be a multi-specialty center of excellence."
