Health systems snap up orthopedic practices: 6 moves to know

Since November, health systems have absorbed spine and orthopedic practices in their networks.

1. Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health is becoming the parent company of Black Hills Surgical Hospital and Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center, and those entities will transition to nonprofit status.

2. Frisco, Colo.-based Panorama Summit Orthopedics has changed its name to CommonSpirit Summit Orthopedics. The practice will maintain all of its existing providers and locations, but will now operate under the CommonSpirit Health umbrella.

3. Sheridan (Wyo.) Orthopaedic Associates has joined the Sheridan (Wyo.) Memorial Hospital staff. The physicians and staff of Sheridan Orthopaedic Associates joined SMH as employees Dec. 22. The two entities have a long-standing partnership. 

4. Mount Pleasant, S.C.-based Southeastern Spine Institute joined Winston-Salem, N.C.-based  Novant Health. 

5. Novant Health acquired Raleigh, N.C.-based Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine, which has multiple locations in the area.

6. Novant Health announced its affiliation with Supply, N.C.-based Leighton Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
