Are medical practices accepting health insurance exchange plans?

Practice Management

Most physician practices will accept patients who purchase insurance plans through health insurance exchanges, according to Physicians Practice's 2014 Physician Compensation Survey.

When asked why they are accepting these patients, respondents reported:

•    We want to increase patient volume at our practice — 42.4 percent
•    We feel that we are locked into an exchange plan via our payer contract — 20.7 percent
•    We are looking to expand our payer mix — 15.4 percent
•    Other — 21.5 percent (a majority of respondents said they wanted to help or feel obligated to help current and new patients)

The survey includes responses from 1,338 physicians.
