Boston Medical Center implemented a method for holding effective team meetings, according to AMA Wire.
Here are five insights into successful team meetings:
1. Each of the center's six internist practice teams meets every Friday at 8 a.m. for one hour. Practice teams consist of between six and eight physicians, nurses, medical assistants and staff.
2. Friday meetings focus on projects specific to the team, like establishing a "wait-time notification board for the waiting area," reports AMA Wire.
3. Each month, all practice teams hold a joint meeting for organization announcements and celebrations of success.
4. Charlotte Wu, MD, the center's General Internal Medicine Primary Care Clinic director, said the team meetings create collaboration among multidisciplinary team members. The meetings serve as a platform for members to "get to know each other in a more personal way, which breaks down hierarchies and silos and improves communication," she said.
5. The smaller team meetings also give every player a voice, so improvement projects actually come into fruition.
