OrthoCarolina Research Institute, OrthoCarolina introduce opioid-free pain management study— 5 things to know

Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina Research Institute and OrthoCarolina unveiled the Carolinas Opioid Reduction Effort project.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The CORE project is the country's first study investigating the efficacy of non-opioid pain management.


2. The study jumpstarts in March and will encompass hundreds of patients who underwent surgeries across a variety of orthopedic subspecialties.

 

3. OrthoCarolina hopes to pinpoint safe and effective opioid-free patient management alternatives.

 

4. Nady Hamid, MD, of OrthoCarolina, heads the project, and North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein supports the study.

 

5. The Duke Endowment, a private foundation, granted OrthoCarolina Research Institute a multi-year research grant to help fund the study.
