CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga (Tenn.) installed the Mazor X Robotic Guidance Platform, according to The Chattanoogan.
With the installation, CHI Memorial Hospital is the first hospital in the region to offer robotic spine surgery. "The Mazor X is only available at a small number of hospitals across the [U.S.]," orthopedic surgeon Alex Sielatycki, MD, told The Chattanoogan. "As the first in the Chattanooga region to offer robotic guidance for spinal surgery, we are proud to bring the very latest surgical technology to this area to provide enhanced surgery care."
In September, Medtronic began the process to fully acquire Mazor Robotics for $1.64 billion. Medtronic partnered with Mazor in May 2016 on a multi-phased strategic and equity investment.
Then in August 2017, Medtronic became the exclusive worldwide distributor of the Mazor X. After the acquisition is complete, Medtronic aims to advance and accelerate the adoption of robotic-assisted spine surgery. Medtronic also anticipates the acquisition will generate a double-digit return on invested capital by year four.
