Baton Rouge, La.-based Mary Bird Perkins — Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center opened its new musculoskeletal oncology clinic in Baton Rouge.

1. The new facility is the first musculoskeletal oncology clinic in Louisiana.
2. The center aims to treat patients with tumors of the soft tissue, muscles and bones. It provides care for disorders including soft tissue, bony and retroperitoneal sarcomas.
3. The team of providers comprises orthopedic, surgical, medical and radiation oncologists.
4. Orthopedic oncologist Shaun Accardo, MD, will head the facility's team of physicians along with surgical oncologist John Lyons III, MD.
5. Dr. Accardo is one of two orthopedic oncologists in the state. He specializes in adult and pediatric musculoskeletal surgery as well as orthopedic trauma.
