OSC performs first orthopedic stem cell therapy at Center for Regenerative Medicine — 4 things to know

Two patients received stem cell therapy injections at the Center For Regenerative Medicine at the Orthopedic & Spine Center in Newport News, Va. The separate procedures were deemed successful, according to Blackbird.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Raj Sureja, MD, performed the first stem cell injection at OSC on Thursday, July 16.

 

2. Dr. Sureja administered the stem cell injection to a 69-year-old female patient. The patient was injected with amniotic stem cells from a placental tissue matrix allograft.

 

3. Mark McFarland, MD, performed the second stem cell injection the following day on a 66 year-old male patient. The patient also received amniotic stem cells.

 

4. The Centers for Regenerative Medicine specializes in treating patients with mild to moderate arthritis, tendon and ligament tears, back pain, rotator cuff tears, tennis and golfer's elbow in addition to a variety of muscoskeletal problems. The center treats these conditions with stem cell or platelet therapy.
