Orthopedic surgeon Tom Johns, MD, of Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn., received the Olin Williams Distinguished Service award, according to WGSN New Radio.

1. Dr. Johns joined Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in 1979. He spent more than 30 years as the team physician for Rutherford county schools and Murfreesboro-based Middle Tennessee State University athletics.
2. In 1996, Dr. Johns served as a physician for U.S. track and field at the Olympics.
3. Dr. Johns has earned various awards throughout his career, including the Thomas A. Brady Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
4. From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Johns served as a delegate for the state of Tennessee in the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
5. After earning his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Dr. Johns completed his residency at Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital. He underwent fellowship training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
