The American Orthopaedic Association's Own the Bone program partnered with Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes to launch the first orthopedic-focused teleECHO program in the U.S.
Six insights:
1. Clinicians participating in the AOA teleECHO program will meet monthly via videoconference sessions that feature expert-led lectures and interactive case presentations.
2. The AOA's Own the Bone program is a national multidisciplinary fragility fracture prevention program that aims to alter provider and patient behavior to reduce the incidence of future fractures.
3. The Own the Bone program is also intended to improve bone health treatment.
4. "Project ECHO has an impressive track record of facilitating the expansion of knowledge within the medical community," said Paul Anderson, MD, chairman of the Own the Bone steering committee. "The structure of teleECHO programs is particularly helpful, because all participants — experts and attendees — are viewed as teachers and learners."
5. Project ECHO makes specialized healthcare knowledge available for wide consumption by gathering local clinicians with expert specialist teams in virtual teleECHO session settings.
6. The collaborative orthopedic-focused program is expected to begin this spring.
