Scott Shawen, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, N.C.
Dr. Shawen specializes in foot and ankle surgery, including trauma and fracture care, reconstruction and amputation.
He is a team physician for the athletic departments at Wingate (N.C) University and Rock Hill, S.C.-based Winthrop University.
Prior to joining OrthoCarolina, Dr. Shawen served as chief of foot and ankle surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Dr. Shawen is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Association and Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
After earning his medical degree from Durham, N.C.-based Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Shawen completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., which is now part of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He underwent foot and ankle surgery fellowship training at Miller Orthopedic in Charlotte, N.C., which merged with Charlotte (N.C.) Orthopedic Specialists to become OrthoCarolina in 2005.
