Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute has performed the first orthopedic surgery at the new Orlando Health Lake Mary (Fla.) Hospital.

The procedure was performed by Stanley Kupiszewski, MD, on Jan. 13. He performed a shoulder replacement on 68-year-old Navy veteran Dennis Simon, according to a Jan. 15 news release shared with Becker's.

Dr. Kupiszewski, who has been with Orlando Health for 20 years, previously successfully replaced Mr. Simon’s right shoulder.

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital opened on Jan. 11 as a comprehensive acute care facility offering cardiovascular, general surgery, orthopedics and women’s services with labor and delivery, alongside a future NICU.

Opening with 124 beds, the 455,000-square-foot hospital will be able to expand to up to 240 beds.
