Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Boyd dies

Robert Boyd, MD, a former chief of the spine service at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital, died at age 94, according to a Jan. 30 obituary

Dr. Boyd followed in his father's footsteps to become a physician and earned his medical degree from McGill Medical School in Montreal, Canada. After serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he completed his residency at Boston-based Harvard.

He worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for four decades and spent the last 20 years of his tenure as chief of the spine service. His research focused on vascular implants for hip avascular necrosis and prophylactic antibiotics in orthopedics.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
