Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia is the first hospital in the United States to achieve the Joint Commission Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement.
Here are four points:
1. The advanced certification shows the hospital is committed to providing safe and efficient care its total hip and knee replacement patients.
2. Joint Commission reviewers visited the hospital on April 7 and conducted a rigorous onsite evaluation of its total joint procedures.
3. Reviewers examined the continuum of care and all transitions that occur within each phase of care as well as education of the total hip and knee replacement patient in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases.
4. The advanced certification is available to Joint Commission-accredited hospitals, critical access hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. It is awarded for a two-year period.
