Michael B. Purnell, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and owner of OrthoMed Center in Modesto, Calif.
Dr. Purnell is also affiliated with Memorial Medical Center Modesto and Central Valley Medical Group Sutter Medical Network in Modesto.
With expertise in athletic injuries and sports medicine, Dr. Purnell also specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, computer-assisted knee arthroplasty, knee and hip replacement and rotator cuff deficiency.
Dr. Purnell serves as a team physician for California State University Stanislaus in Turlock, minor league baseball team Modesto Nuts and Modesto Central West Ballet.
He is a professional consultant for DePuy Orthopaedics, and he also serves as a member of Modesto Junior College's editorial review staff.
After earning his medical degree from Iowa City-based University of Iowa College of Medicine, Dr. Purnell completed his residency at Boston University. He underwent fellowship training in sports medicine at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in New South Wales, Australia, and an AO fellowship in Munich, Germany.
