Andrew Pearle, MD, director of the computer assisted surgery center at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and editor-in-chief of the Orthopedic Journal Techniques in Knee Surgery, outlined six details patients should know about anterior cruciate ligament surgery.
Midland-based MidMichigan Health added James Lewis, DO, to its musculoskeletal team. Dr. Lewis specializes in general pediatric and adult orthopedics. MidMichigan has seven medical centers and multiple urgent care facilities spread across the state.
Watertown, N.Y.-based Samaritan Medical Center added Holden Heitner, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Heitner is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and part of North County Orthopaedics Group in Watertown, N.Y.
Orthopedic sports medicine surgeon Ryan Plyler, MD, joined Tinton Falls, N.J.-based Professional Orthopaedic Associates. Dr. Plyler specializes in the treatment of the knee, shoulder and hip including sports medicine care, cartilage restoration and joint preservation.
Fabien Bitan, MD, performed an M6 artificial cervical disc replacement surgery on a 29-year-old woman Aug. 2. Dr. Bitan, a spine surgery chief at New York City-based Lenox Hill Hospital. The disc has been available outside of the U.S. for some time. Outside of the U.S., surgeons have used the disc in more than 45,000 procedures.
Dwight Kemp, DO, is joining WVU Medicine Orthopedics-Spring Mills in Martinsburg, W.Va., after 25 years in private practice. Dr. Kemp specializes in sports injuries, joint replacement and general orthopedic surgery. He previously worked at the Center for Orthopedic Excellence in Martinsburg, Bone & Joint Specialists of Winchester (Va.) and Page Memorial Hospital in Luray, Va.
Retired orthopedic surgeon George Rapp, MD, will be presented with the 2019 Sachem Award by Governor Eric J. Holcomb of Indiana. The award recognizes a lifetime of excellence and moral virtue that has brought credit to Indiana. Dr. Rapp practiced for 35 years and designed a hip prosthesis for total hip replacement as well as helped found Sofamor Danek, now a division in Medtronic.
Doylestown (Pa.) Hospital re-elected Charles Burrows, MD, as director of the orthopedic service line. Dr. Burrows was re-elected after completing a two-year term at the hospital. He sits on the medical executive committee and supervises all orthopedic affairs.
Farmington, Maine-based Franklin Memorial Hospital welcomed Raymond White, MD, and F. Lincoln Avery, MD, to its orthopedic medical staff. Drs. White and Avery will be practicing at FMH through a service partnership between Farmington, Maine-based Franklin Health Orthopedics and South Portland-based Maine Medical Partners Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
