Steven Barnett, MD, was named the new chief medical officer at Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute.
He replaced Robert Gorab, MD, who held the position for more than a decade, according to a Jan. 14 news release. Dr. Barnett will oversee Hoag's clinical quality and annual outcomes reporting process, and lead the medical staff.
"Dr. Gorab has set the bar high for HOI in terms of providing world-class quality orthopedic care, and our clinical outcomes reflect his dedication for continuous quality improvement," said Dr. Barnett. "His passion for high quality surgical care, clinical accountability and transparency in reporting clinical outcomes is a commitment I will work tirelessly to honor and uphold."
Dr. Barnett received his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society. He completed a surgical internship and orthopedic residency at the University of California Irvine, and he completed a joint replacement fellowship at Phoenix-based Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders.
