Blue Belt Technologies, a "smart" surgical instrument developer, and Acibadem Healthcare Group, a healthcare services provider in Turkey, partnered to create an orthopedic surgical robotics program.
Here are five key points:
1. Acibadem Healthcare Group acquired two Blue Belt Navio Surgical Systems. The Navio system consists of robotic-assisted orthopedic technology.
2. The technology will be used clinically in the hospital group and in an orthopedic robotics training and education program within the Center for Advanced Simulation and Education facility.
3. Alper Kaya, MD, performed the first clinical Navio case at Acibadem Kadiköy Hospital in July.
4. Implanting Smith & Nephew Journey Uni-compartamental Knee System, Dr. Kaya used a handheld robotics-assisted instrument to resurface the diseased bone to accept the partial knee replacement components.
5. Osteoarthritis patients may prefer partial knee replacement surgery instead of total knee replacement due to less pain and recover time postoperation.
"We view this partnership with Acibadem University Hospital group as a first-class example of establishing relationships beyond our growing footprint in the U.S.," said Eric B. Timko, president and CEO of Blue Belt Technologies.
