Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Stephen Courtney of Plano Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Spine Center

Stephen P. Courtney, MD, is the founder of the spine division at Plano (Texas) Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Spine Center. He also co-founded Eminent Spine, a medical device company that manufactures spinal implants. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Texas Spine Society.

Dr. Courtney has previously served as chief of orthopedic surgery at the Medical Center of Plano and a member of the hospital's executive and operating room committees. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

 

Dr. Courtney and David Freehill co-founded Eminent Spine in 2008. The company's products include the DiamondBack Pedicle Screw Fixation System and the Fang Bone Plate and Plating System. The company passed its second consecutive FDA inspection in February 2014.

 

Dr. Courtney earned his medical degree from Louisana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency at Texas A&M University Medical Center in Bryan and also completed a fellowship at Florida Neck & Back Institute in Gainesville.
