The Philippine Medical Association in Chicago named Henry Echiverri, MD, 2014 Physician of the Year, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
Dr. Echiverri visited two cities in the Philippines with 50 other medical volunteers from the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society in America earlier this year. The volunteer group performed 180 major operations, 250 minor surgeries and saw more than 2,800 outpatients. He has participated in these humanitarian trips for more than five years. Dr. Echiverri also visits hospitals in Manila each year to provide education and training.
Dr. Echiverri is a neurologist practicing at the Naperville, Ill.-based Edward Neurosciences Institute, in affiliation with Northwestern Medicine. He has completed neurology residencies at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., and Hines (Ill.) VA Hospital, according to the report.
