Medtronic full-year 2016 revenue hits $28.8B; Spine revenue totals $2.9B+
Medtronic has announced financial results for its fourth quarter and full fiscal year 2016, which ended April 29, 2016. The company reported fourth quarter worldwide revenue of $7.57 billion. The restorative therapies group, which includes the spine, neuromodulation, surgical technologies and neurovascular, reported worldwide fourth quarter revenues of $1.88 billion.

 

Spine fellowship directors rate avoidable, unavoidable spine surgery complications
Researchers surveyed orthopedic spine surgery fellowship directors about spine-related adverse events and hospital-acquired conditions in a new Spine study. Respondents rated the following events as completely avoidable:

 

  • Incompatible blood
  • Retained foreign object
  • Wrong level surgery

 

Opioids may exacerbate chronic pain
University of Colorado Boulder researchers studied opioids' impact on chronic pain in lab rats, according to Science News Hub. Following a few days of morphine therapy, the rats experienced continuous aches for many months. The opioids caused the rats' spinal cord glial cells to overreact, which led to spinal cord inflammation.

 

Aurora Spine completes non-brokered private placement of 2.53M common shares
Aurora Spine completed a non-brokered private placement of common shares. Under the offering, the company issued 2.53 million common shares at a price of $0.15 per share for aggregate gross proceeds of $385,443. Aurora Spine will use the offering's proceeds for general working capital purposes.
