Johns Hopkins welcomes 1st female black neurosurgery resident, Nancy Abu-Bonsrah

Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University admitted its first female black neurosurgery resident, Nancy Abu-Bonsrah, on March 17, 2017, according to okayafrica.com.

Here are three things to know:

 

1. Ms. Abu-Bonsrah will graduate from John Hopkins School of Medicine.

 

2. Growing up in Ghana, West Africa, Ms. Abu-Bonsrah moved to the United States with her parents when she was 15 years old.

 

3. In a statement, the medical student noted she is interested in providing surgical care in underserved communities.
