Here are six hospitals expanding spine and neurosurgeon programs.
1. Plans for the development of Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital-Venice were approved by the Venice City Council. SMH will provide provide the full spectrum of neurosurgery and orthopedic services among others. The $437 million project is expected to be completed in two and a half years.
2. Little Rock, Ark.-based CHI St. Vincent opened its $30 million Arkansas Neuroscience Institute in Sherwood. The 250,000-square-foot space houses the M.G. Yasargil Research & Education Center, which focuses on improving treatments, mapping the human brain and training neurosurgeons.
3. Overland Park, Kan.-based Saint Luke's South Hospital nears completion of its new rehabilitation center, designed to treat orthopedic injuries, as well as brain and spinal cord conditions.
4. Seymour, Ind.-based Schneck Medical Center's unveiled new departments on June 3, including a neurosurgery and pain center. Further departments will open throughout the summer with the number of exam rooms increasing to between 120 and 150.
5. Springfield, Mass.-based Mercy Medical Center opened the Minimally Invasive Spine Center of New England on its main campus. Center physicians will perform minimally invasive spine and neck procedures at the center, which is part of Mercy's Neurosurgical Institute.
6. HCA Healthcare-affiliated Oviedo (Fla.) Medical Center opened a spine care center on its campus. Oviedo physicians will treat herniated discs, spinal stenosis, myelopathy, compression fractures and degenerative scoliosis, among others.
