Samuel Joseph, MD, performed a robotic endoscopically assisted percutaneous outpatient spinal fusion at Memorial Hospital of Tampa, Fla.
Dr. Joseph, founder of Tampa, Fla.-based Joseph Spine Institute, used the Joimax endoscope to perform a disc removal and decompression through a 1 to 2 centimeter incision.
Medtronic's Mazor X was then used to guide the placement of an expandable cage and screws as well as reducing soft tissue damage and radiation exposure for the patient.
The combined endoscopic and robotic-guided approach enabled the patient to be discharged within one hour of the procedure.
