TLIF alternative linked to shorter length of stay, recovery: study

Spine

Empirical Spine's Limiflex Dynamic Sagittal Tether was compared to transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion for degenerative spondylolisthesis in a recent study in The Open Orthopaedics Journal.

The study, part of an FDA investigational device evaluation, found those who underwent surgery with the DST has shorter hospital stays and an earlier return to work, Empirical Spine said in a June 1 news release. DST patients also had higher activity levels three months after surgery.

Both TLIF and DST led to sunbstantial improvements in pain and function initially.

"These interim results suggest that decompression and DST stabilization may be a viable alternative to TLIF for patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis, offering comparable outcomes with potential benefits in terms of hospital stay, return to work, and activity levels," William Lavelle, MD, one of the study's authors, said in the relese.
