Spine specialist named president of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Spine specialist D.J. Kennedy, MD, professor and chair of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Nashville, Tenn., has been elected president of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. 

Dr. Kennedy joined Vanderbilt in 2018 and is board-certified in sports medicine and physical medicine. He specializes in both interventional and noninterventional spine care, according to a Jan. 25 Vanderbilt press release. 

He has held many roles with AAPMR during his career, including as the inaugural chair of the inclusion and engagement strategic coordinating committee. 

Formerly, he has held positions at Northwestern University in Chicago, the University of Florida in Gainesville and Stanford (Calif.) University. 

He also sits on the board of directors of the North American Spine Society as the inaugural director of the strategic growth council.
