The University of Arizona Medical Center Trauma Center was selected as one of 60 trauma centers to participate in a new clinical trial for spinal cord injury treatment, according to a KVOA report.
Randall Friese, MD, and Rein Anton, MD, PhD, will lead the study, examining a new drug designed to protect and regenerate spinal nerves after acute spinal cord injury. Patients must be treated within 12 hours of injury and medication is given for 28 days, according to the report.
Patients are randomized either to receive the drug or a placebo.
