Chukwuka Okafor, MD, of Spine Institute of Central Florida, was featured in The Ledger recently for his volunteer work in Florida and around the globe.
Dr. Okafor takes time to mentor studies at the Biomedical Science Career Program based at Harvard which includes students from around the United States with varying levels of experience and exposure to the medical field. Dr. Okafor seeks out students with disadvantages—those who aren't well connected—and works with them to find their next steps toward their goals and career.
He also performs spine surgeries abroad and teaches physicians in developing countries spine surgery techniques. He recently volunteered to perform spine surgery on a Tanzanian nun, which allowed her to return to active service.
