Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Holy Cross Hospital received a $7 million donation to fund neurological care.
Here are five highlights:
1. Hospital supporter Phil Smith, president and CEO of the Phil Smith Automotive Group, donated the millions.
2. The donation will name the Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute and establish the Phil Smith ALS and Movement Disorder Clinic.
3. Additionally, Mr. Smith is allocating $2 million of the donation as matching funds in a community challenge, hoping to boost neurological research in South Florida.
4. The Phil Smith Neurological Science Institute at Holy Cross will hold the Phil Smith ALS and Movement Disorder Clinic. The clinic will also establish a research relationship with Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.
5. The Phil Smith Neurological Science Institute has more than 15 neuro-specialists, who treat neurological conditions and diseases, including Lou Gehrig's disease.
