Adult spinal deformity patients with radiculopathy experience greater pain and disability than patients without leg pain, according to a study in Spine.
Here are four things to know:
1. The retrospective review of a prospective, multicenter ASD database comprised 324 patients, of which 90 experienced radiculopathy and back pain.
2. Study authors analyzed preoperative, postoperative and 2-year follow-up radiographic parameters and patient-reported outcomes.
3. At baseline, leg pain patients experienced higher disability than patients without leg pain, according to Oswestry Disability Index and Scoliosis Research Society measures.
4. Surgical strategies did not differ between the two groups. ASD patients with radiculopathy experienced increased pain and disability compared to patients without leg pain, which persisted after ASD realignment surgery.
