Dr. James Andrews performs elbow surgery on Nationals' Aaron Barrett: 6 points

James Andrews, MD, will perform elbow surgery on Washington Nationals' Aaron Barrett, according to a MASN Sports report.

1. Mr. Barrett fractured his right elbow while in the final stages of rehabilitation for an earlier Tommy John surgery.

 

2. Dr. Andrews performed the Tommy John surgery in September 2015.

 

3. Dr. Andrews is one of the most reputed sports medicine specialists in the country. He founded the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. He is also president and chairman of the board of the Andrews Research and Education Foundation.

 

4. He is the orthopedic medical director for the Tampa Bay Rays as well as a senior consultant for the Washington Redskins.

 

5. He has made television appearances on ESPN and appears on a Topps baseball training card.

 

6. Dr. Andrews is the fifth richest doctor in the world, and is worth $100 million, according to the Gazette-Review.
