Steven Nguyen, MD, a joint replacement specialist at Florida Hospital in Orlando, has been performing the Freedom Knee Replacement procedure to preserve the patient's natural anatomy, according to an ABC news report.
The minimally invasive procedure allows surgeons to remove the damaged part of the joint and shape the surfaces to hold the artificial joint. Surgeons access the surgical site through a lateral approach, which is designed to preserve the quadriceps and promote faster recovery.
