University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center announced that C. McCollister Evarts, MD, committed $1 million to help establish the endowed Dr. C. McCollister Evarts Professorship in Orthopaedics.
Dr. Evarts is the former CEO of URMC and past chair of its department of orthopedics and rehabilitation. He retired from the hospital in 2006 and is currently a faculty member at the Penn State Hershey (Pa.) Bone and Joint Institute. He is credited with helping to introduce total hip replacement surgery to the United States.
The inaugural recipient is John T. Gorczyca, MD, director of URMC's orthopedic residency program and chief of the orthopedic trauma division. He focuses his practice on difficult fractures as well as complex reconstructive surgery to repair bone loss.
