JAAOS names Dr. William Levine editor-in-chief: 5 things to know

The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons named William Levine, MD, the new editor-in-chief.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. Dr. Levine is chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as chief orthopedic surgeon at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

 

2. The former editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Fischgrund, MD, was JAAOS editor-in-chief from 2009 to 2015.

 

3. Throughout his career, Dr. Levine has been in various leadership roles, including deputy editor of JAAOS, for physician societies. He has been on the board of directors for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

 

4. Throughout his career, Dr. Levine has co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and 50 book chapters. He edited 11 textbooks and monographs.

 

5. Dr. Levine earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tufts Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in elbow and elbow surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and sports medicine at the University of Maryland.
