Spotlight: Dr. Pete Asnis, Boston sports team physician — 5 things to know

In an interview with Boston.com, Pete Asnis, MD, discusses his role as the team physician for several Boston sports teams.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. Asnis is head team physician and medical director for the Boston Bruins, head team orthopedist for the Boston Red Sox and a team physician for the New England Patriots.

 

2. Dr. Asnis is also an orthopedic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School.

 

3. Dr. Asnis always thought he was going to be a joint replacement surgeon, but he was exposed to sports medicine early on and fell in love with it.

 

4. Although Dr. Asnis usually sees patients after an injury, he focuses a lot on prevention issues.

 

5. Dr. Asnis owns a Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup ring, a Red Sox 2013 World Series ring and 2007 World Series ring, a Patriots 2014 to 2015 Super Bowl ring and two AFC championship rings for his work as a team physician with the championship teams.
